“Collaboration brings innovation,” says Mobilia’s Salvatore Fazzari of Mobilia & Friends x Caesarstone project. What began as an idea to bring together WA’s leading design professionals and craftspeople has resulted in an extensive collection of furniture and art pieces, each with its own unique story. The bespoke collection is now available as part of a digital auction, with all proceeds going to Camp Quality.

Mobilia, an Australian company specialising in authentic furniture and design products sourced from around the world, invited some of Western Australia’s most talented architects and designers to create a bespoke piece using Caesarstone’s premium quartz surfaces.

With a strong history of collaborating with high profile creatives, Caesarstone has signed projects with globally renowned creatives such as Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon, British designer Tom Dixon and New York-based collaborative design practice Snarkitecture.

Mobilia & Friends x Caesarstone highlights the incredible talent in our own backyard, with the participating designers showcasing ingenuity via several remarkable pieces.

“We brought together a group of architects and designers who we really admire and are creating exceptional work in Western Australia,” says Salvatore. “We wanted to challenge them to look at product innovation in a new light and discover the process of designing and making furniture, which was new for most of them.”

Each piece in the collection reflects both the creatives who conceptualised the design, but also the ability of the talented stonemasons who executed the creations.

“Engineered stone is traditionally used in flat surfaces, however, this collaboration with Mobilia has highlighted that the applications don’t need to be limited when imagination is paired with the right skillset from a talented stonemason,” explains Caesarstone’s Brand Manager, Emma Bush.

The collection ranges from furniture pieces to art objects. Ohlo Studio’s ‘Slot Table’ was inspired by the Caesarstone material itself – it’s simple and elemental in nature, and perfectly poised for most interior environments. With a cheeky personality, State of Kin’s ‘Bottoms Up!’ drinks trolley highlights the versatility of Caesarstone by carefully integrating colours inspired by the WA landscape. Other designers opted to create functional art objects that consider reducing material wastage, such as spaceagency’s ‘Monolith’ sculptural light piece and architect Philip Stejskal & artist Ron Nyisztor’s ‘Offcut’ stool lamps, which take inspiration from a doric column in ancient Roman architecture.

“Being bespoke, each piece had to be approached differently, sometimes with the incorporation of materials such as metal, glass and Perspex. This required the stonemasons to think outside the square, which has resulted in some really unique pieces that won’t be seen elsewhere,” concludes Emma.

Mobilia & Friends x Caesarstone collection is available as part of a digital auction, with all proceeds going to Camp Quality – a charity that gives the kids impacted by cancer the chance to be kids again. The auction is now live until 8th August 2021 at mobilia.com.au/auction.
