Armadillo & Co Sydney Showroom Sarah Ellison Installation, Australian Design, Photo Anson Smart | Yellowtrace

Sydney stylist and furniture designer, Sarah Ellison, has created an arresting installation at Armadillo & Co’s Sydney showroom. The display is a sensory feast of bold colour and opulent texture, featuring pieces from Ellison’s SOL collection including the Muse sofa, Huggy chair and Earth table.

The living and dining room settings are arranged on a trio of Armadillo & Co’s rectangular and custom round Agra rugs, in autumnal shades that complement a forest of florals created by Hermetica. The lush landscape has a comforting sense of permanence.

“I worked with florist Jai Winnell to build out a grounding concept, where dried native grasses, sorghum and possum banksia appear to grow out of the rugs and furniture from deep within the earth,” explains Sarah. “Tonally, we kept the palette distinctly Australian, with warm desert tones to celebrate the beauty of our own backyard.”

Jodie Fried, co-founder of Armadillo & Co says the collaboration “is a true celebration of Australian creativity and craftsmanship, reflecting our shared ethos of drawing inspiration from the natural world and translating it into a uniquely antipodean aesthetic that is at once relaxed and refined.”

Designed by Studio Goss and opened late last year, the Armadillo & Co showroom has a tactile feel that lends itself to the artistic expression of this nature.

The installation will be on view at Armadillo & Co’s flagship showroom in Sydney’s Surry Hills until the end of August 2020.
