Campus, with creative direction from Nineties, have interpreted ancient architectural forms in their design for Chimi’s Stockholm store. Spaces unfold with the mediative atmosphere of a temple – soft arches and reimagined columns bring an ancient architectural language firmly into the present. Different textures, shapes, and materials have been layered for a highly tactile user experience in eyewear brand’s bricks-and-mortar manifestation, creating a calming space that responds to our collective pandemic-induced anxiety.

“As the mere existence of retail is being questioned, we wanted to create just as strong an offline experience as Chimi has online,” explains the team at Nineties. In response, Campus’s interior scheme is defined by contrasts in textures and materials, creating a subtle tension that encourages customers to truly engage with the present silvmoment.

Inside, a muted, restrained colour palette of grey and reflective metal surfaces generates a calm environment that feels far removed from the stressful, overwhelming shopping experience we’ve all engaged with in the past.

A series of suspended lights and metal shelving bring a contemporary tone to the very cool interior that has an industrial edge. The shiny, smooth surfaces provided a welcome tension to the homogenous, organic forms that fill the space. Walls shift from a coarse-grained plaster to off-white ribbed panels. These subtle shifts in texture add yet another layer to what is ultimately an irresistibly appealing retail environment.
