Dream is a contemporary Aboriginal print collection that explores the different paths we all encounter, the opportunities we are faced with, the way we heal and the way we unite as one. Robyn Caughlan’s four original artworks — Many Nations, Many Roads, Serenity and Spring Blossom — are re-imagined by Materialised in 21 colourways through high-performance furnishing textiles and wall coverings.

Falling deep into Robyn’s archive of original paintings and drawings, the team at Materialised were immersed in a world of beautiful lines, colours and textures.

“It was fundamental to ensure the four artworks showcased Robyn’s handwriting and were kept true to her storytelling,” explains Materialised Textile Designer, Chloe Evans. “From the moment of scanning in Robyn’s artwork and developing them into repeatable designs, it was instinctual they were made for textiles and wall covering.”

Robyn Caughlan proudly comes from the Darug and Darkinjung lineage. “Finding out I am of Aboriginal descent was a major turning point in my life,” shares Robyn. “My art filled a void in me that I never thought would be. I lost my father at five, and three months later I was sent on a two-week holiday, never to return. Then I lost a mother, sister and four brothers, which added to my loss of identity, leaving a chasm that took many years to heal.”

When Robyn discovered art at the age of 30, it became a passion almost immediately. “[It] honestly saved my life,” she says.

“We are many cultures, but we are one,” continues Robyn. “If the world realised this, we could all live in peace and harmony. There is enough negativity in the world. It’s up to us to come together to make it a better place.”

Established in 1980, Materialised is a Sydney-based family business specialising in fabric, wall coverings, acoustic and art for contract and interior design markets. For more information on the Dream collection, visit materialised.com.au/robyn-caughlan-lookbook/.
